ABB releases latest version of SCADAvantageTM system

Includes new features for precise gas flow measurement, wider integration with other systems to improve efficiency and accuracy of gas distribution

Calgary, Canada 17 May, 2010 – ABB announced today that it has released the newest version of its Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system SCADAvantage TM version 5.3. This release includes enhancements to meet the requirements of the gas distribution for Local Distribution Companies (LDC) demand.

SCADAvantage also offers various value-added oil and gas applications integrated within the system, which enables users to reduce operational costs. Based on open standards, SCADAvantage has been designed to help upstream oil and gas market customer improve their overall operating efficiency by providing superior production and distribution visibility and control. This flexible, high performance, open architecture SCADA system is capable of hosting applications that link real-time and transactional business systems. It is also a single source for operational, engineering and business information.

This release of SCADAvantage includes expanded connectivity with other parts of the network, with added protocols for gas flow measurement, including the new Eagle, Mercury protocols, and the ability to upload and store historical data/meter parameters/gas analysis/alarms/events. Improved Time synchronization enables information from several different time zones to be collected at viewed in real-time, for up-to the minute visibility of all points of the network.

All of these new features help gas producers more accurately measure and distribute their product at the end of the pipeline as well as see the product at all points of the distribution network, to optimize their overall operating efficiency and profitability.

The new version of SCADAvantage also provides more computing power and integration capacity, with full support for new 64 bit Windows operating systems: both for servers and client workstations. This allows for more comprehensive live information logging and reporting capabilities, as well as reliable offline backups. It also has faster navigation capabilities, so that the user can quickly see and then act upon information from any point in the network.
